When a local recluse, Ned Crosby, hits what is believed to be a large bear with his car, people soon start disappearing. After a stranger from Montana shows up with theories of his own, Sheriff Ross Pickett is faced with a disturbing premonition that something evil might be lurking about. Afraid to confide in those who are closest to him for fear of being ridiculed, Pickett must battle his own inner demons and confront his destiny within the confines of the Amen.

Believing he was spared in order to conceal the secrets of the Amen Swamp, Ross Pickett makes a pact with others who survived that October night. Whether it was Bigfoot or some evolutionary off-shoot of man, he understood them to be intelligent creatures wanting only to be left alone. Ross felt compelled to share the truth with one other man, his friend from Montana, David LaFontaine. That decision would eventually come back to haunt him. Caught in a web of personal failures, Mayor Gene Steubens becomes aware of the cover-up and begins to formulate a plan of his own. Steubens catches the ear of a skeptical TV hunting show host and offers him the opportunity of a lifetime. Two groups of outsiders, a team from the Existence organization, and the hunter with his cameramen, all naïve to the explosive terror embodied in Amen Swamp, converge on Jessup. They are soon confronted with the new reality that the legendary Bigfoot creature is no longer a myth. The stakes are raised when the ultimate prize is within their grasp. With personal relationships hanging in the balance, Ross must tempt fate a second time and try to stop the men from provoking the ire of the beast.
